"Ogawa Shoten in KUON Flagship Store" Vol. 2

Hi, this is Shohei.

The ongoing "Ogawa Shoten in KUON Flagship Store" pop-up event will end this weekend (December 11). This is an opportunity to see rare and valuable folk arts that are not usually available in our stores.
We wanted you to take this opportunity to have a look at them.

"Ogawa Shoten" deals authentic folk arts including Boro and Sakiori fabrics, which are based on the creation of KUON. They have been supporting KUON as a "historical research team" in various fields such as history, culture, and art since the launch of the brand.

We also had kintsugi works and bamboo baskets, which were the inspiration for the KUON 2022 Fall/Winter collection. Let's take a look at some of the items.

"Kintsugi" Plain Bowl with brush works "Daikichiyo" / Rosanjin Kitaoji

First of all, the main item of this event, a "Kintsugi" repaired bowl made by Rosanjin Kitaoji, one of the most famous potteries in Japan. He is also known as a painting artist, calligrapher, lacquer artist, cook...

Boro "Tattsuke-Hakama", Sashiko fabrics

小川商店 in KUON Flagship Store

We asked Mr. Ogawa to collect Boro and Sashiko fabrics because some of our customers collect them. I guess it is so hard to collect this many fabrics at a time...The main item among the Boro item is the "Tattsuke", they are a kind of pants people wore them when they did outdoor activities. Some of you might know that "Ninja" wear this kind of pants.

Amish rag dolls "Pig"

アーミッシュピッグドール

Pig dolls made and sold as souvenirs in the bags used by the Amish to store their crops. There are two sizes: large and small. The large size can be used as a cushion or ornament, while the small size can be used as a key chain by hooking it onto the loop on the tail.

The Amish pig dolls will continue to be sold at the store after the event.

The interesting point about Ogawa Shoten is that they have not only Japanese folk arts, but also oddities from around the world. We also have folk arts that I have not been able to introduce this time, so please feel free to come and visit us.

Thank you!
