Collection: ICHIMATSU

ICHIMATSU Pattern is a Japanese ancient checkered pattern which existed as one of the woven patterns. It became popular in Edo period because popular Kabuki actor, Ichimatsu Sanogawa was wearing the hakama (man’s divided skirt) of this pattern. Miwa-orimono was the only atelier which could weave Sashiko-ori of ICHIMATSU, but KUON and Mr Oohazama in Miwa have worked together to improve the design so that other ateliers can weave too. Inheriting and spreading traditional, professional techniques is about designing system. KUON is trying for sustainable design.
